Students in Villanova's College of Engineering will be traveling to area schools throughout the week to give elementary students a taste of what engineering is all about. On campus, Engineers Week will be celebrated with various events, contests, and food!

In this workshop, attendees will learn about Villanova University’s new (as of summer ’11) learning management system, Blackboard Learn 9.1. The topics to be covered include an exploration of the Blackboard Learn 9.1 interface starting with the My Institution tab. You will learn how to view and organize your Course List. Next we will enter a course for an overview of the course components. We will demonstrate the navigation methods. You will learn how to rearrange the course menu by using the drag & drop feature. The basic steps for adding content such as adding a course syllabus and other course files will be demonstrated. The new content types in Blackboard Learn will be discussed such as the Mashup features which allow instructors to easily link multimedia components into your course from popular sites such as YouTube, Flicker, and SlideShare. The NBC Learn archives will also be introduced. You will be shown how to personalize your course through the customization features. We will look at the Course Tools and show you how to hide tools. The Workshop will include a glimpse into other features including Assessments and Interactive tools. The tour will conclude with a quick overview of the Blackboard Grade Center followed by a hands-on practice session.

The Renegade Company of Philadelphia will stage a dramatic reading of Minoru Betsuyaku’s play The Elephant, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the opening of the first Japanese internment camp. The Elephant is set post-Hiroshima in a hospital where a victim of the attack contemplates life and the choices he makes. Minoru Betsuyaku was born in Japanese-occupied Manchuria. He’s written over 120 plays, and his works are produced extensively throughout Japan. The Elephant was written in 1961, and it’s been his most enduringly popular play.
