Scholarship@Villanova Lecture featuring Christopher Kilby, PhD
Start Date: 9/18/2013Start Time: 3:00 PM
End Date: 9/18/2013End Time: 4:30 PM
Event Description
Please join us on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 3:00 p.m. in room 205 of Falvey Memorial Library for a Scholarship@Villanova lecture by Christopher Kilby, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Economics. Dr. Kilby will be leading a lecture titled "Aid and Democracy Redux:  Reassessing the Impact of Foreign Aid on Democracy."

Does foreign aid promote democracy? One of the stated goals of donors like the United States is to promote democratic reform in developing countries, but the most widely cited paper finds that aid has no impact. With use of improved methods and more data, we find a positive effect over the course of several decades. In terms of the year-to-year impact, the data shows that incentives matter: in cases where donors can credibly commit to making aid contingent on democratic reforms, those reforms happen. Join us as Dr. Kilby explores these ideas further.

This event, sponsored by Falvey Memorial Library, is free and open to the public.
