Alfred F. Mannella and Rose T. Lauria-Mannella Distinguished Speakers Series: Donato De Simone
Start Date: 2/3/2010Start Time: 1:30 PM
End Date: 2/3/2010End Time: 2:45 PM
Event Description
In his compelling memoir, Suffer the Children: Growing up in Italy during WWII, author, educator and World War II survivor Donato De Simone shares some touching personal stories about how his life was forever altered by the events that occurred in his home town in the Abruzzo region of Italy during World War II. De Simone gives eye-witness testimony to the horrors of war through the eyes of a child who has seen too much death and destruction. Though his story speaks of disturbing events, it makes the readers realize that though nothing good can possibly come out of such bloodshed, still it inspires the good among us to extraordinary acts of heroism on behalf of a suffering humanity. Through De Simone’s eyes, witness the real horrors of war and the two sides of man’s complex nature through the vivid descriptions of this masterful storyteller.
