Scholarship@Villanova: Sally J. Scholz, Ph.D.
Start Date: 9/24/2009Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Date: 9/24/2009End Time: 5:15 PM
Event Description
Professor Sally Scholz with the Center for Peace & Justice Studies and Philosophy department at Villanova University will discuss her recently published book, Political Solidarity. Social movements, radical or otherwise, have brought about substantial change in American politics. From civil rights and feminism to grassroots activism to altering how the world engages in international trade, activists for social change are engaging in a wide variety of efforts to advance their cause for justice. Dr. Scholz will discuss the moral relations entailed in political solidarity--itself a moral relation of collective action to bring about social justice. Political solidarity challenges us to think about how individual actions contribute to a collective project and how our shared goals mediate our interpersonal relationships. Copies of Political Solidarity will be available for purchase and signing.
